Preview: Minnesota Gophers @ Michigan Wolverines

The gophers will look to continue their win streak as they head to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan Saturday night.  Members of the barnyard will be their for their annual roadtrip.  Over the last few years, the gophers have always seemed to have problems with the wolverines.  I don't know if it has to do more with John Beilein's agressive 1-3-1 defense or match-up problems in facing players like DeShawn Sims and Manny Harris.  Luckily for the gophers, Sims and Harris are no longer with the wolverines, but they remain a scrappy bunch.  Michigan is led by Darius Morris who is averaging 15.7 ppg and 7.1 apg.  And, like a typical Beilein team, they have sharpshooters in juniors Stu Douglass and Zack Novak.
The gophers come into this game fresh off a 6 day break for the start of spring semester.  They defeated Iowa 69-59 last Sunday.  They looked pretty solid for most of the game, but had a major lapse to start the 2nd half that resulted in a 13-2 Iowa run that tied the score.  All Big Ten road games are tough, but if the gophers can avoid lapses like in the Iowa game, their superior athleticism should give them an edge.

  2. Darius Morris is not even near the top of the point guards in the Big Ten. I really like the gophers to go into Ann Arbor and get a win the finally but the shooters of michigan scare me especially since we tend to play to a teams potential. That was okay with iowa because there shooting was absolutely horrible and we can't expect to get that lucky against Michigan. Hopefully the break and the new semester don't cause a hangover for the gophers. Off to Ann Arbor!

  3. Please tell me the point guards in the conference who are better than Morris. Jordan Taylor is the only possibility.

  4. For starters you can't be the best point guard in the league when your team is 1-5 in conference play. But to follow up on the point guards in the big ten.

    1. Jordan Taylor, as you previously stated
    2. Demetri McCamey
    3. Kalin Lucas
    4. Talor Battle
    5. William Bufford
    6. Michael Thompson

Are all better point guards then Darius Morris

  5. Obviously tonight doesn't make me look good since he was a non-factor, but Buford isn't a point guard and Lucas and Battle are more scoring guards than true points. I think we might be differing more on semantics than anything else.

And I'd much rather have Morris than Thompson.

  7. I will agree Buford is not a point guard. That is just where he starts for an oversized Ohio State but Lucas and Battle are point guards with the ability to score. They would play the PG at the next level and they run their teams which is a point guard quality in my eyes. But I agree our takes on the position are different. But hold off on Morris being at the top of the list until he can at least score on freshman guards from minnesota.
